Professionalism excellence refers to when a student has demonstrated excellent professionalism behaviour in excess of reasonable expectations.

What happens to the information I submit?

Information you submit will be held by the Medical School in accordance with the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ GDPR Policy. Your submission, including your name, is made available to the student, academic tutor and professionalism lead.

We welcome reports of positive behaviour from students and members of the public.

Report a behaviour concern

As a member of staff or those involved in teaching

The School has identified different types of feedback that may be provided by any member of a provider’s team or a university representative regarding a student’s behaviour.
  • Low-level concerns: These refer to isolated incidents that may not appear significant on their own but could become concerning if they occur repeatedly.
  • On-the-spot professionalism concerns: These involve either repeated low-level concerns or more serious behaviours that fall well below expected professional standards.

If you have an immediate or major concern about a student's health and welfare please refer to the (login required) in the first instance. If these options exceed the needs of the student situation, or the immediate or major concern relates to professionalism please email: meddent-concerns@plymouth.ac.uk. If immediate action is taken as a result of referral to the information for staff guidance, please ensure that any action and outcome is shared with meddent-concerns@plymouth.ac.uk to ensure accurate records are maintained.

What happens when I have raised a concern?

All low-level concerns are reviewed and recorded by the faculty office.
The student and academic tutor are notified and should discuss the concern at the next scheduled meeting.
More serious concerns are reviewed by the Professionalism Lead and remediation arranged.
Any action taken is considered and proportionate. Very serious concerns may result in consideration of the student’s Fitness to Practise.

As a student

Many concerns can be managed through senior faculty members such as Academic tutors, Line Managers, Community and Hospital Sub-Deans, Senior Academic Tutors, Heads of School, Associate Deans or Professionalism Lead.
However, the raising concerns procedure provides an individual with a route for raising serious concerns related to patient safety or academic or professional malpractice. Students may use this raising concerns procedure to raise either a concern about academic or professional malpractice or a concern about patient safety or compromised care.

For student conduct issues
The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is proud to be a safe, welcoming and diverse community – our staff, students and anyone interacting with us should feel comfortable being who they are.
