Working part time is an excellent way of gaining valuable experience that could help you to stand out from the crowd when you start applying for graduate opportunities. Casual work in any sector will help you develop employability skills vital for your future employers such as communication, teamwork, problem solving or organisational skills. 
Our Part-Time Week is packed full of activities to help you to feel more informed and equipped to find part time work alongside your studies including:
  •  The chance to meet local employers offering part time roles on campus and in the local area
  •  Workshops to help you develop your understanding of how to find part time work and developing an effective CV
  •  Drop-in sessions to get tips and guidance from advisors
  •  Information sessions on how to budget effectively, managing your study life balance, and understanding your rights in the workplace
We have employers coming throughout the week to speak to you about their job opportunities on offer.

This session will walk you through your options for work at the University and in Âé¶¹´«Ã½, where to find these opportunities and how to apply. We will also give you a whistle stop guide through CVs, Cover letters and the importance of tailoring these to the jobs you apply for.

These drop ins are designed to help you network with potential part time employers offering roles and find out what skills and experiences they are looking for in ideal candidates.

An introduction to self-employment and freelancing
Delivered by The Cube this workshop will walk you through what you need to know about becoming self-employed or freelancing, how to get started, and how this can work as a part time job.

Wednesday 1 October

This session will walk you through the process of how to structure that all-important CV and how to target it towards the role you are applying for. We will also provide guidance on writing a cover letter so you can find out what to include and how to get yourself noticed.

Managing your money and staying safe from scams when job searching; workshop
Delivered by HSBC this workshop will give you useful tips to manage your money at university and advice on spotting scam vacancies online when job searching.

Making an effective student ambassador application; workshop
By the end of this session you will be able to describe the skills and qualities that the Student Ambassador recruitment team want to know about. Explore and identify the skills that you will bring to the role from your experiences and learn how to use the STAR technique to articulate you what you will bring to the role.

14:00–15:00

Managing your mental health when job searching and applying for jobs; workshop
Delivered by Livewell this workshop will help you learn useful ways to manage your mental health when job searching and how to feel better about applications and interviews.

Are you thinking about becoming a student ambassador? Every year we recruit around 200 ambassadors to replace those that have graduated.
Our ambassadors work as part of a highly motivated professional team, supporting a variety of departments across the University.
