About Jane
Dr Jane Grant is an artist, writer and academic. She is Associate Professor (Reader) and Associate Head of School for Graduate Affairs in the School of Art, Design and Architecture.
Jane is an award-winning artist and was co-creator of The Fragmented Orchestra with John Matthias and Nick Ryan, winner of the PRSF New Music Award in 2008. Her artwork Ghost was premiered at ISEA Istanbul 2011. Plasticity, a collaborative work with John Matthias, Kin, and Nick Ryan was at the BFI, onedotzero festival, and Google Campus, London. Grant, alongside Matthias, was commissioned to create the sonic artwork Fathom 2012 and Fathom Atlantic 2018. Jane has recently been developing artworks in AR and immersive environments resulting in her new work Between Us with Magic Leap 2019. Her current artworks are about desire, astrophysics, and haunting, including How to Disappear Completely, a short story and site based installation.
Jane has written for Leonardo and Leonardo Music Journal, Technoetic Arts, Ubiquity and many other journals. She is co editor and contributor to The Oxford Handbook of Sound Art, 2021 and has contributed a chapter to the forthcoming Bloomsbury 3 volume Encyclopaedia of New Media Art, 2022.
Teaching
I teach on the Creative Media BA Programme where I run the Dissertation module and Experimental Practice. I also work with PhD students and have 15 completions. I have taught on The Planetary Collegium International PhD Programme and also on the Cognovo Doctoral Programme funded by the EU Marie SkÅ‚odowska Curie initiative. I am interesting in collaboration, sound, immersion, installation and inter and transdisciplinary practices.Â
