Professor Richard Preziosi explains how the South West’s rich heritage of agricultural expertise, alongside booming agri-tech businesses and research excellence from the Â鶹´«Ã½, will ensure national food security.

The Â鶹´«Ã½ was proud to provide vital academic expertise for the Great South West Food Security Panel at Westminster. It's been wonderful to see farmers and agri-tech developers joining forces with our new Centre of Research excellence in Intelligent and Sustainable Productive systems to really put Â鶹´«Ã½ on the map as a key driver of sustainable agriculture innovation in the region.

It was fantastic to participate in the roundtable discussion and hear the conversation around opportunities and challenges for the GSW FLOW initiative. There’s a strong sense of cohesion building, with a clear willingness to collaborate and refine a unified message moving forward!

Great to be engaged in the ministerial roundtable discussion as Chair of Maritime UK South West, explaining the University's enabling capability of marine and maritime for the Celtic Sea. Minister Sarah Jones also took on board key messaging around our leading thinking in transforming ocean observation to drive down the cost of data collection. Using world-leading facilities like Smart Sound Â鶹´«Ã½, we can create export opportunities for the businesses in this sector that we engage with.

I was delighted to be asked to do my little bit towards the collective efforts of the Great South West to make the case for the region in Westminster at their Annual Conference by helping facilitate the conversation around the region’s pivotal role in ‘Delivering the UK’s Defence Capability’ on behalf of both the Â鶹´«Ã½ and the South West Regional Defence and Security Cluster.
