Students secure £12,000 for their businesses in Dragon’s Den

Three student-led business have secured a total of £12,000 thanks to taking part in the Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Dragon’s Den.
Run by The Cube, in partnership with Santander Universities UK, the competition saw pitches from seven student and graduate-led teams bidding to impress local business experts.
The winner of funding of £6k to invest into her business was MA Illustration student, Amii James, with her business Amii Illustrates.
In joint second place, winning £3k each, were Curtis Maxwell who is studying an MA International Relations: Global Security and Development with his business Disability Enabling Network, and Kellie Wells (MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering), Oscar Dawe and Gus Stattaford-Fowler (MEng Robotics) with their business, LoRa Viridis.

The ‘Dragons’, who were able to hear the pitches in person for the first time after last year’s inaugural event ran online, were Rich Adams, Business Engagement Manager at the Â鶹´«Ã½; Stuart Elford, Director of Devon & Â鶹´«Ã½ Chambers of Commerce; Allice Hocking, Head of Research Impact and Partnership at the University; Remy Foucher, Regional Manager, Santander Universities UK; and Jessica Holliland, Social Enterprise Consultant and Coach.

The competition provides a valuable opportunity for Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s student and graduate entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses, with the £12,000 prize money kindly donated by Santander Universities UK, through their Universities programme.
The seven businesses that took part were: Amii Illustrates; Arkscreen; Disability Enabling Network; Ecobadge; LoRa Viridis; Agri Bio and Woogie Big Pants. The pitches were five minutes, followed by five minutes Q&A from the Dragons.
