We undertake a number of field trips as part of the programme which provide you with a unique insight into the industry, building upon the learning material delivered within the MSc Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries.

Our residential field trip is typically based in Scotland, focussing on salmonids, flatfish, shrimp, cleaner fish and other key species. The field trip encompasses a number of sites, providing access to key facilities and infrastructure, and engagement with key representatives from some of the largest companies and organisations focussing on sustainable seafood production.

The trip typically includes visits to commercial hatcheries, on-growing facilities, fish processing and packaging facilities and an aquafeed production plant. The visit therefore provides experiential learning of the aquaculture industry “from farm to fork”.

Other field trips include day visits to hatcheries, conservation sites and farms in the Southwest of the UK.

Field trip costs (entrance fees and transportation) are generally included within the course tuition fee. However, we may require a small contribution towards the residential field trip. We will ensure that an alternative no-cost option is available, although students will be required to meet subsistence costs and any visa fees if applicable.
